Prop Balancing
Primary Vibration Symptoms:
Many aircraft have vibration-caused RPM restrictions due to a build-up of vibration at certain power settings. Quite a few AD's and recurring failures can be traced to vibration. Vibration can cause many components to fail prematurely and mysteriously including:
  • Spinner and Bulkheads
  • Cowling, metal and fiberglass
  • Exhaust system components
  • Mounts--oil cooler, turbo, and engine
  • Control linkages
Threats to avionics:
Vibration is a serious threat to avionics and instruments as they are extremely sensitive. Avionics shops know that vibration is a problem and they have been doing "shake and break" bench tests for years to simulate actual conditions.
